Nova Rock - I'm in a Band Now!

Nova Rock 

Somewhere in April last year I was approached by Norman who was my boss in one of my previous employments to feature for a song about friendship. It would be my first collaboration with a rock band and I was excited to see how well the band could play.

As soon as I received the instrumental to the song, I was blown away! Musically, they were very mature and I had no idea Norman could sing that well.

As soon as we had done Nanban, I had this idea that I should speak to Norman and become a permanent member of the band due to the awesome chemistry amongst the band members. Everyone spoke the same language.

A few weeks later, before I asked to join the band, Norman asked me instead to be part of the band upon agreement by all the band members.

We would then go on to push Nanban for radio airplay on THR Raaga (Malaysia's number 1 tamil radio station). Once we saw Nanban getting positive reviews, we started working on our second single, Gaveena. Gaveena would go on and enter the Malaysian Top 10 charts and stay there for about 6 weeks. This was truly surprising as we did not expect such an outcome.

We have shot 2 videos as a band both for Nanban and Gaveena (links below). Being with a band is different from my experience being in a rap group. There is more work involved due to live instruments. With a band like ours, there are even more challenges as we all have day jobs and hold managerial positions so our responsibilities at work usually takes precedence. Nevertheless, we try to commit ourselves to meet up and work on new material.

At the moment we are working on our 3rd single, Sabthame Melody which is a song about music. We are hoping to release it by the end of the month. This would be our last single for now before concentrating on the album.

So look out for our album to be dropping soon.

Nova Rock consists of Norman (Lead Vocals), Jonathan (Lead Guitarist), Shenchker (Rhythm Guitarist), Alvin (Bass Guitarist) and myself (Rapper).

Come mr. Vege mon, grow me some bananas

The title for this blogpost is to be sung to the tune of day-o (ref: beetlejuice)

The plants are progressing well especially with the spell of rain that we have been receiving. All the plants now are being grown under full sun which we in the equator are lucky because we do not really need greenhouses to plant tropical plants and plants will not suffer from frost and so on.

As you can see from the photos below, all of the plants except the lettuce have grown considerably well.

I still have one more plant to plant which is the cili padi. I have run out of soil so I have not had the chance to plant it yet and cili padi is my favorite. It goes well with any dish.

I remember back home (my hometown of Penang) my dad, elder sister and I would always have a cili padi in hand when eating, One mouth of rice and one bite of the cili padi... Oh, the bliss! Some say we northerners have a tolerance for spice, we can basically eat anything that is spicy and if it is not, you know we're not going to be satisfied. This reminds me of a colleague of mine who is from sungai petani. We were once in this kelantanese shop in dengkil where they serve some pretty good Tom yam and their signature dish called nasi goreng Malee. My colleague ordered the belacan and poured it all on his rice and requested for sliced cili padi. The waiter was surprised and he warned my colleague that the belacan is already very spicy. My colleague being a northerner said, I know, but it is not spicy enough for me so bring me the cili padi. The waiter obliged.

I know this article has deviated a little bit but hey, not everyone wants to read about plants now do they?

So yeah, I still have that cili padi seeds which I am itching to grow.

Trams for Penang

Yea, yea yea.... I know this is old but i guess I would like to keep the discussion going on why we need trams, so here are my reasons:

1. Because I said so!
2. It does not and will not be a source of pollution (unless the passengers are the pollutants)
3. It is way more cheaper than a Light Rail Transit (LRT)
4. Ditto ditto ditto ditto ditto ditto ditto Subway system
5. Trams used to be Penang's heritage way before I was born.
6. There are still usable tram lines in Penang that can be salvaged and cost can be saved there too.
7. Penang drivers can save us the embarrassment of people calling us lousy drivers and just hop on a tram
8. Lesser congestion...lesser future heart, tension, high bp and mental patients on the road due to the jam
9. It is cool
10. Most advanced cities/towns in the world are using Trams.

The first time I saw a Tram was in the city of Manchester England. There were very little cars on the road and the trams were the preferred mode of transport. This is due to the fact that fuel is expensive there and the public transport system is quite reliable. Forget about the tube (subway) system in London because it is usually not that reliable because of unexpected strikes by the workers and repair works (because it is old) and not because of it being late...I don't know how to elaborate that point because I have no freakin' clue on why our public transportation system is not on time. So again....Trams would reduce the amount of cars on the road because trams need the whole road to move :D



The other time I saw trams was when i was in the town of Bydgoszcz (pronounced Bid-gosh) in Poland. There i saw how cars and Trams moved around in the town. It is almost similar to how trains cross roads here except there are no gates but there are traffic lights to indicate when a tram is about to pass. Cars can also drive over the tracks or even behind a tram (imagine it to be a bus on rail tracks. Except the tracks are not ON the road but embedded IN the road, so your car tires/suspensions are safe should you drive over one)
