I will be in Sitiawan tomorrow

Folks, I will be in Sitiawan tomorrow for some personal event and it is going to be a long drive from KL. on the highway is not too bad but once you have to take the trunk road is when the excitement takes place.

I usually like taking the trunk roads because it is more picturesque and you get to see all the kampungs on the way which is becoming rather scarce due to urbanization.

Sitiawan is indeed a unique place especially when at least one of my friends calls it CT-A-One/CT-A-1. The story behind how Sitiawan got its name is even more unique.

So the story goes on to explain that there were once these 2 elephants in the area who were bosom buddies. One unfortunate day, one of the elephants got stuck in quick sand and was fast drowning. Not being able to see its friend suffer, the other elephant stretched out its trunk to try and pull the other elephant. However neither made it and the elephant that was trying to help did not want to let go of its friend hence the name "setia kawan" or now over time, "Setiawan". This story may not be true but it serves a strong lesson in life such as trust and loyalty. These are some qualities that are fading and people have become more impersonal.

I hope I have entertained you thus far or maybe put you to sleep but either way, you benefit ;)

Will post something if anything interesting happens in CT-A-One.

Vixstarr.blogspot.com now mobile friendly!

My blog is now mobile friendly! Please inform everyone you know to subscribe to my blog. It may be boring but worth a read ;)

We have tested it out on iPhones and androids but have not tested it on Symbians and other OSes. If you have a Symbian phone please test it out and let me know. The blog works fine with iOS and android. Nice layout and readability.

I am speaking as though I coded the whole thing but trust me, it is just a checkbox in Blogger ;)

Having said that it is still important for me to maintain the readability of the site.

I am looking for more improvements to the blog so stay tuned :)

#ITwtf

So, my wife told me that my vege mon stories are rather dry which is something I have to agree with because not many people like gardening and science ;)

In view of this, this blogpost will be something other than gardening. The problem I have is that I am at the moment "Kering Idea" the only thing that I can think is the hash tag that I started in Twitter where I am the only contributor. It is called #ITwtf . The reason I named it so is because of the blunders that we all do on a daily basis when it comes to computers or the general usage of IT.

I am from the IT industry and I have made mistakes that would make me think "what the flying fuck did I just do?"

We think machines are complicated but in reality, they are not; we just fail to read the bloody manual and this is ever prevalent especially in the male of the species!

Men and manuals are like two opposite sides of the spectrum, they can never meet! But trust me, it does a whole lot of good to read the damn manual because you will be surprised to find that you were doing it wrong all the time. /me thinks: do women come with manuals?

Anyway, #ITwtf is not only limited to me. If you have an IT blunder that you did or someone else did, please post it in twitter under this hash tag.

I would love to post all the posts under that hash tag but I will save it for another day when there is something that was contributed to it from anyone but me.

Bear in mind that IT "experts" make the silliest mistakes like clicking Shift+delete only to realize that they deleted the wrong bloody file and it cannot be brought back to life!

So please, you and I are not spared from stupidity!

Come mr. Vege mon, grow me some bananas

The title for this blogpost is to be sung to the tune of day-o (ref: beetlejuice)

The plants are progressing well especially with the spell of rain that we have been receiving. All the plants now are being grown under full sun which we in the equator are lucky because we do not really need greenhouses to plant tropical plants and plants will not suffer from frost and so on.

As you can see from the photos below, all of the plants except the lettuce have grown considerably well.

I still have one more plant to plant which is the cili padi. I have run out of soil so I have not had the chance to plant it yet and cili padi is my favorite. It goes well with any dish.

I remember back home (my hometown of Penang) my dad, elder sister and I would always have a cili padi in hand when eating, One mouth of rice and one bite of the cili padi... Oh, the bliss! Some say we northerners have a tolerance for spice, we can basically eat anything that is spicy and if it is not, you know we're not going to be satisfied. This reminds me of a colleague of mine who is from sungai petani. We were once in this kelantanese shop in dengkil where they serve some pretty good Tom yam and their signature dish called nasi goreng Malee. My colleague ordered the belacan and poured it all on his rice and requested for sliced cili padi. The waiter was surprised and he warned my colleague that the belacan is already very spicy. My colleague being a northerner said, I know, but it is not spicy enough for me so bring me the cili padi. The waiter obliged.

I know this article has deviated a little bit but hey, not everyone wants to read about plants now do they?

So yeah, I still have that cili padi seeds which I am itching to grow.

I leave you now with the pictures.

Tamil Nasyid

There was this video shared by one of the people I follow on Twitter (@bmahendran) where you have 4 Malay chaps singing a religious song in perfect harmony.

Not only was the harmony perfect but the pronunciation as well. Now, Tamil is not an easy language to master because of the following reasons:

1. Pronunciation
2. Grammar
3. It is just too complicated

These boys who sang a whole song in Tamil have to be saluted because it is not their mother tongue and they actually took the time and pain to learn the pronunciation. Even my pronunciation isn't that great and Tamil being my mother tongue.

The reason why I am so amazed is because and especially of their pronunciation of the character "zha" which is pronounced "Ra" with your tongue touching your palate. See it is even complicating to explain the process. However, these boys do it with ease!

Non of our local Tamil guys have attempted to do what these boys have done.
Disclaimer: I have not heard local Tamil harmonized singing before so may be wrong and stand to be corrected

P.s. This reminds me of Boys to Men. Good R&B music. One reference would be colours of love by Boys to Men.

I now leave you with the video:

I have got my plants, now where are them zombies?

Hello and welcome to this week's addition of vege mon (pronounced as man in a Jamaican accent).

Do not quote me on this but did you know that a country is under threat if it does not have agriculture. This is something that I was told during one of my courses.

I believe that is true because the people will run out of food supplies should there be a war. I mean that statement was a no brainer but I am just stating the obvious because some people may have been attacked by zombies and had their brains eaten.

By the way if you're wondering why the title for this article makes no sense is because you have not played plants vs zombies. Do not know that one then google it. I have given out enough simple interpretations.

Well anyway, this week my plants have not made much progress Except for the okra, tomatoes and chili. Okras are sprouting new leaves and shedding the old ones whilst the chili and tomato are growing quite fast. The brinjal still looks like it is creeping on a come up but the lettuce has not grown any taller but the leaves are starting to take shape.

The problem with lettuce is that if it is not grown properly, the leaves will become leathery and not very pleasant to eat. I would not know the fate of my lettuce now so I guess would have to wait.

It has been more than a month now since I planted these crops so it is going to take another 2 or 3 months before I can see any fruits.

I will now leave you with some pictures.

Okra and some of my homemade fertilizers. I have to read up
More on fertilizers and compost because I do not believe those 2 words are interchangeable. I say fertilizer because it helps the plant grow providing it with nutrients but it ain't made of dung. So guys, please help me find the right term.

Brinjal a.k.a eggplant

Tomato

Chili.

P.s: did you guys know that okra/ladies finger is actually part of the same family as hibiscus? Well yes it is. Hence the similarities in the leaves.

Farming is my middle name

First of all let me apologize for the late post! Come to think of it, I may be very well apologizing to my self!

I was busy watching my new pet robot clean the house, no it is not like the robot that you remember from the cartoon Jetsons but more of a combination of those toys you see in pasar malam where They bounce off a barrier and move in the opposite direction and a vacuum cleaner. I am talking about the picabot. It vacuums the floor on its own and also sanitizers the place with a laser gun :p I lied, it is a UV light. Although I may understand its coding algorithm isn't that great, but anything with the name 'bot (robot) in it is cool!

Anyway, back to the perishables, so, the okra has grown taller, the brinjal has made some amount of progress and the lettuce does not look like it is going to survive. However, the chili and tomato is looking pretty good. Might be because I am using separate pots for these plants.

With the brinjal and lettuce, I had to get rid of some of them to make sure I only have the best plant. This is done so that the plants get enough nutrients. It was a difficult process because as i have mentioned in my previous post, I believe that if any plant made it that far, then they are heroes. If had more pots, chances are I would have planted more of the same plant.

Anyway, I shall leave you with the pictures.

The okra, tallest in the class.

Brinjal, creeping on a come up!

Lettuce - I'd be surprised if it makes it.

And the heroes for the week:

Tomato

Me no vege mon today!

Hello! First of all selamat berpuasa to my Muslim friends. Hope you guys are blessed abundantly during this holy month.

This week I am not going to be blogging about my vegetable patch as I am not in Selangor but in my hometown of Butterworth, Penang. In turn if you like it or don't, I am going to blog about my mom's garden instead. Her garden is one of my inspirations for my own patch.

Although my mom's garden is not particularly only vegetables but it includes some flowers as well. All of her plants are grown in pots like mine and they do bear fruit.

Some of the plants include indian herbs such as "karpura valli" or Oregano as it is known in English. There is also "Thulasi" also known as Holy Basil. These plants come in handy especially when you are having a flu or if you need to rid your chest of phlegm. They don't taste great especially oregano which is pungent and chewing on a leaf is pretty beneficial flu or not. They grow easily and look like a shrub.

There are also a number of plants that can't be eaten and if you insist may kill you. A very good example is oleander. It is a beautiful flowering plant and often used for landscaping but beauty comes with a heavy price!

Here are some of the pictures.

An overview of the garden.

Oregano - good for curing flu symptoms.

Japanese Rose - beautiful flowers and used for landscaping as well. Don't know of it is edible and I do not want to take the risk of eating it ;)

What I believe is pineapple but never seen it fruit!

Some ornamental bamboo and I have known this plant ever since I can remember which could put this plants age at about 27 years old because moved to Butterworth when I was 3.

This pot holds two plants Pegaga (not lady gaga, no! It is used as Ulam in Malay cuisines. It is also known as Pennywort in English) and also tomato. The tomato plant is still not mature enough to bear fruit.

This fellow right here is the infamous oleander. This lil' mufacka has the potential to kill by ingesting just 1 leaf. I told my mom to throw it as we occasionally have kids in the house and you never know what they put in their mouths.

Some palm which I am not so fond of. I hate palm (except maybe for coconut) and I think I am prejudice towards palm as I do not believe they serve any purpose. One of the reasons could be because it destroyed the estate where my parents are from! It was a rubber estate until they wiped it out to make way for palm oil... Sheesh! Okay, it is not the palms' fault but hey I need some plants to blame!

Pandan, beybee! I love the smell. Also know as daun chendol. No fancy English name.

"Pasalai keerai" or also known as Indian spinach. "Keerai" in Tamil generally refers to vegetables.

"Thulasi" or holy basil. Just placing some of these leaves in a cup of water may do you some good. Hence why it is used in holy water (for Hindus)

Money plant. I love these guys. Very hardy plants. There was once when I moved to my new place and did not water it for a week and there was no rain either, but the dude survived despite having looking dried but with some water afterwards, my money plant is doing well.

And last but not least is the Feng Shui plant. These guys are lush and when they flower, they churn out a flower that looks like a mini tumbleweed. I think it looks cool.

So there you have it. A walk through my mom's garden. I have not asked her any permission to publish this so please don't tell her. I mean it. Some of my cousins do read this blog! Save me a beating :P

My son is teething so I'm driving!

My 9 month old son has started to teeth and he ain't a happy guy. Dude just got his lower incisors and I believe he's in pain. Due to this he cannot fall asleep and keeps crying.

It is not easy for a parent to see their offspring in pain. You try to do everything but it just does not help. He is not a difficult baby, in fact he is a joy to be with. Just that this occurrence, isn't something that a parent can sit and watch.

One tip that our pediatrician shared was to take a drive with the baby to calm them down and eventually lull them to sleep.

That is the reason I am still up because I just came back from a drive before my previous one which was a success. This was successful too but this happened because I had to pick him up to feed him and the little dude was not too pleased! I woke the sleeping lion!

But good thing though; I get to use this excuse to blog and I would be grateful to the other parents out there who could share a tip or two with me on how else to deal with this situation without having to be a security guard on duty!

Good night ;)

The Veggies Strike Back

Hello all. Your friendly neighborhood farmer is back.

This is an update for the vegetables that I am planting for personal consumption.

The plants have so far made some good progress. The Okras have grown taller whilst the eggplant and lettuce are still about the same height. I read that Okras grow very fast and can produce fruit in about 3 months whilst the other two take some time.

As you would or would not have read last week, I included two other plants which are tomato and chili. Therefore now I have 3 plants that are of the nightshade family (eggplant, tomato and chili) this is evident as their leaves look almost similar and for untrained professionals like me, you may not be able to tell the difference until much later.

Also as I mentioned before about getting rid of some of the extra plants that were growing, well, I had to finally do it for the Okra as some of them had their stems bent and this would not help their growth so I had to weed them out which was quite sad. Okra do not like overwatering and that could be the reason why their stems could have started to rot and bend. I made a mistake while planting because I should not have had the lettuce and okra in the same pot. Both need different amounts of water and watering methods.

So there you have, choose your crops wisely before planting.

I will leave y'all with the pictures:

Okra, brinjal and lettuce.

Chili and tomato; the chili is a little bit slow to catch up.

Projek Sayur!

An update on my personal project of becoming a farmer at home.

I have captured some pictures of my crops that have grown quite well over the week.

If you do not know what i am talking about, read the previous post, if you are as lazy as me to scroll down, then I shall brief you here. I started a small project planting vegetables for personal consumption. I have just started this for about a week now and u have no idea if it would bear any fruits at all. If it does, then everyone can be a farmer ;)

The progress the plants have made are not that much except for the okra where it has started to sprout new leaves and as for the brinjal and lettuce, they still look the same as last week. I am skeptical about the lettuce because it needs a colder climate and I do not exactly live in Camerons or Genting. Anyhow, I hope I succeed.

The next part will be to get rid of the other plants that are not growing very well. As you can see, there are many of each plant, ideally, there is only supposed to be one of each. Therefore, I have to wait to see which one of each plant grows the best and weed out the rest. It would be a painful process not for the plant but me because I have to choose the best and personally think all of them are heroes for making it this far!

Over the weekend as well, I decided to start on 2 other vegetables which are chilies and tomatoes. They have not started to germinate but I believe it would be soon. Based on my experience through my mom's endevour's planting chili and various other veggies, chili has a good chance of bearing fruit.

Chilies are important to me because my meals have to be spicy. Got chili, will eat!

As I mentioned before, I will keep you posted on the progress of my farming. In the mean time, enjoy the pictures below whilst I go play plants vs. Zombies which is one of the inspirations of this project. Zombies, stay away... I have a pet werewolf! Disclaimer: I do not know if werewolves will trash a zombie in a real fight!

Pictures

Those weird stuff that you see in the pic is compost, a cheap way too. I use the leftover of the vegetable that I used to cook for example, onion/garlic skin, apple shavings, carrot shavings, etc. To make the compost. So there you go, you can recycle that too.

Them okra showing off their new leaves.

Them brinjals and lettuce think they are toys r us kids 'cause they don't want to grow up.

New addition to the family, chili (top) and tomatoes.

Farmville Smarmville; I am a real Farmer!

I have picked up a new hobby and potentially I will be able to literally reap what I sow!

Yes, my fellow reader(s)... I have picked up gardening. Some said I have grown old too fast but hey, I am married with a kid and need to save where possible so I started planting vegetables.

So far I have planted 3 types of vegetables and they have already sprouted within a week. The vegetables are okra, eggplant and lettuce.

The investment is very low; long pot - RM19, seeds - RM2 each, soil - RM10, effort - RM0 and it includes a whole lot of love.

It is really interesting to see them grow but I am not too sure if they will start producing so I will update this blog with the progress of their growth weekly. Till then, here are some pictures:

Okra's have started to sprout

Lettuce have started to sprout

Brinjals still no show

Brinjal finally caught up

All sprouted and Okra in the lead!

Here's a go at a fictional piece

Disclaimer: this is a fictional piece from my twisted mind and bears no resemblance to anyone dead or alive or planning to kill themselves or who thinks they are the one in this fictional write up. I take no responsibility to those who are reading this blog and get annoyed, agitated, blind, deaf, mute or completely fail to use their senses, after this line. Should you want to stop reading, this is where you STOP.

On July 9th I decide to go into KL to catch the new transformers flick at pavilion.

Whilst getting ready, I realize I have run out of some good shirts to wear except for my orange yet faded Stussy shirt that I got for one of my birthdays aeons ago.

Two points to note
1. Why Pavilion: because I have never been there and I would like to go there. Tak boley ka?
2. Why orange of all colours: no other shirt...period!

So anyway, I am all geared up to watch those sexy robots in action and hop into my car and drive my arse there when I get stuck in a road block.

As I approach the block I get a little uneasy because yellow cars are getting pulled over (no, in my mind my car is not yellow, it is a silver Lamborghini and it has pink curtains). The reason I got uneasy is because there were many yellow cars and I am getting late for the movie which I pre-booked 6 years ago (this is my imagination, get your own!)

When it came to my turn to be checked, I was asked to get down by the gentleman in blue and I was like what the f*** (oh, fuck it, I just said fuck, okay.., fuck duck, fuck a duck, there I said it)

So the negotiations begin

Me: selamat pagi 'cik,
Officer: Pagi ape? Dah pukul 3 petang kau dok cakap pagi!
Me: Maaf 'cik, Saya baru bangun, kira ni pagi lagi 'cik untuk saya. Lagipun, kenapa saya kena tahan, 'cik?
Officer: eh, kau jangan dok buat pandai, dah pakai baju kuning, kau boleh tanya lagi buat salah ape?!
Me: saya bukannya bijak sangat, 'cik, SPM pun kira lepai saja...
Officer: mulut tu jage skit; awak tak tahu kenapa awak kena tahan?
Me: Tak tau 'cik...
Officer: hari ni hari demo BERSIH, kau ingat aku tak tau agenda kau?
Me: 'cik pun tau yang saya nak pi tengok transformers? 'cik ni part time bomoh ka?!
Officer: jangan cakap banyak, ikut pergi balai sekarang!
Me: Kenapa 'cik? Saya tak buat salah apa-apa pun!
Officer: yang kau pakai baju kuning ni apehal?
Me: Ni jingga 'cik!
Officer: kau ingat aku bodoh ke?
Me: mungkin, 'cik...eh sorry, tak, 'cik. Tapi saya bersumpah 'cik, ni unggu... Eh, sorry, jingga. Cuma warnanya dah luntur pasai dah cuci berpuluh kali nak bagi Bersih.
Officer: aku tak kisah, kau ikut pergi balai sekarang, kalau tak, aku tambah lagi kes atas nama kau bahawa awak menahan pegawai menjalankan tugas!
Me: tapi 'cik ni jing...
Officer: jangan banyak bising! Ikut pegawai tu skarang!
Me: ni, jinggaaaaaaaaaaa

I was put into the patrol car and taken to the station to have my statement taken. Knowing that I was a little dim, they released me after I agreed to take my shirt off and show off manliness. I had to call my wife to pick me up and bring some change of clothes. I then wore a pink (my favourite colour) towel over my top half and left the station only to be greeted by a swarm of journalists.

Next day in the news:

Man detained for wearing 'yellow'

Kuala Lumpur, A 30 year old man was detained yesterday for wearing what is believed to be a yellow t-shirt.

The man, originally from Penang was detained because he was suspected to have the intension of taking part in a rally in the heart of the city.

The man was the released 3 hours later after he had agreed to remove his shirt which caused some amount of public discomfort.

When approached the man, he had only this to say "orange is not yellow!!!"

Moral of the story: we wash our clothes to be BERSIH. But some people just want it to be Kotor!

Real Moral of the Story: orange is not yellow!!!

My tribute to BERSIH 2.0

Video tribute for Bersih

Artiste: Bone Thugs N Harmony
Title: Change the world

Please read the lyrics and excuse the language though I believe any kids would even bother reading my blog or even anyone as a matter of fact.

I have posted this before but it makes so much more sense in the situation we are in

Lyrics

BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY -
"Change The World (U-Neek's Remix)"
(feat. Big B)

[Big B]
Raisin' hustlas thieves and prostitutes
Young homie think before you shoot
Murderer

[Hook]
It's a crazy mixed up world
It's the end of the world
It's a crazy mixed up world
'Cause it's the end of the world [x2]

[Bizzy Bone]
And trouble may come and sometimes
You'll get pulled over by one time
And when the 1999 rewinds
Didn't even make any strides
Murder all around the whole world it's nauseatin'
Everybody's hatin' everybody over rated
While everybody actin' agitated
I thought we graduated back in the sattle waitin'
Aboard the battle stations
Hation is a birth defect
And you know ain't nobody perfect
And when the curtains close
Open up the doors
No more

[Big B]
See we're losin' this world we love
And it looks like the sinnin' won't end
So I'm reachin' high up above
Lord let your blessins begin
And let's change the world

[Krayzie Bone]
Sometimes I sit and think about if I could change the world
Get in the mind of the little boys and girls
Show 'em that it is a better way
Satan got you trippin' don't listen to what the devil say
'Cause he can deceive ya
Play with your brain and mislead ya
But it won't be long
'Til the angels come
There's no where to hide but he'll run
Babylon the great has fallen
God is callin'
We all in y'all in
Souljahs go marchin' in bombin' 'em
But this time we ain't talkin'
We are tryin' to hit the target we launchin'
Police brutality got to cease
But I see the NYPD don't want peace
And the LAPD don't weant peace
So we'll never be free
So come on

[Layzie Bone]
Everyday the devil at me
And I wish the lord would throw a Hummer at me
I ain't happy
Me and Eazy-E in the B-E-N-Z
With my niggas right next to me it's my legacy
We can't let it stop us uh uh not now
The whole world endin' up in buck buck pow
Corruption destruction disaster
Everybody tryin' to rap faster than the master
Oh lord could you save my soul
Nigga tryin' to go platinum around forty years old
The lord knows we can do this shit
And ain't no stoppin' us know 'cause we can prove this shit
Nigga me Stew D PD Freaky G
The whole world wanna be a rappin' with me
I'm in the flesh
Let's talk about sex
Babies havin' babies generation-x
With the AIDS epidemic we ain't pure no more
And I know they gotta kill for the shit we ain't ready
First we lost Eazy then we lost Pac
Biggie got killed when the shit gon' stop
Everybody wanna know what's goin' on
With the Thuggish Ruggish Bone
Tryin' to be prepared for the Y2K
And if I don't die today
I'm tryin' to change the world

[Wish Bone]
You need a lesson you can learn from rappin'
But they tried to ban it realize it ain't gon' happen
We done changed the world
Ghetto voices bein' heard and fed
Now I got my guns better arm yourselves
Most don't have a clue
If it goes down what to do
Don't you know this government ain't worth for me and you
I have a dream no I have a wish
If we can't save ourselves then let's aid our kids
Let the world go home
Let these babies have somethin'
Let the world go home
Just don't blow this motherfucka up
You kill him he'll kill you
Some say it's stupid but violence really lives where I come from
Hungry little kids where I come from
Thugs like me where I come from

We only got 'til the end of time (we got to the end of time)
To change the world (we shall overcome) change the world the world [x2]

[Hook]
It's a crazy mixed up world
It's the end of the world
It's a crazy mixed up world
'Cause it's the end of the world [x2]

A Good Laugh for the Weekend

This week I had to look for hooks to hang the picture frames for my new place and I had run out of those sophisticated hooks or I had lost them when moving because I am pretty sure I had some amount of surplus.

So anyway, I was too lazy (as usual) to drive to the hypermart next door to look for these stuff and also I decided to give business to the small business owners so that they can sustain their business, but unfortunately they did not have what I wanted (checked at least 2 stores).**

however, I had a good laugh reading the instructions that was printed on one of the items I found; to be specific I was looking for hooks that had steel nails on them but the ones I found were the ones with adhesives. Anyway, the instructions are available in the pictures below and I am not going to spoil the fun.

** please support your local small businesses. Big corporations come in and kill these businesses and simple people like you and me cannot make a living through businesses. Make the "the kedai runcit" next door your first priority before heading to a large supermart.

My weekend, yo!

Hello,

Since I have this app for Blogspot, let me put it to good use.

It has been a good weekend although I have not achieved what I intended too such as putting up the picture frames in my new home or to actually do some cleaning and also to take my phone to a DiGi shop because my phone is acting up. Funny thing is, although I am hooked on gadgets, the gadgets just don't seem to last. Sounds like an irony doesn't it.

But anyway apart from the non achievements, I have to admit that I finally made it to one of my teams' "makan-makan". It was a good seafood joint in Klang and the price was reasonable. The only qualm I have is about the service; it took us 3 waiters before we could have our Chinese tea filled up and also to get some ice cubes. Otherwise, this joint seems quite okay. The place is called Bagan Seafood and it is situated quite deep into the estuary.

I believe GPS can get you there but not mine because I believe my GPS is racist and refused to take me to Tanjung Harapan but instead kept taking me to Tengku Kelana (where little India is) it felt as though the GPS was saying, "no, no Indian boy, this is where you belong! Your 'peoples' are here!"

But either way, it was a good weekend. Looking forward to the next to complete my chores!

To cancel or not to cancel...you know what... F it, just cancel.

So now we are going to block several websites under the banner of piracy of which some of the sites are bona fide file sharing sites.

The choice to ban piratesbay, fine, I can live with that, the name says it all; but again, that is censoring the Internet. Why have we become the moral police when it is the job of the producers of the software, movies, TV series to get in touch with these sites (mega upload and fileshare included) to remove the content due to infringement. I just read that RIM is happy for the move. Why wouldn't they be, less work for them.

To be very honest I am heavily against piracy of the local music industry because I was once part of it and till this date, I still buy original local albums.

However, by banning these sites, it does not solve the problem. Producers need to be proactive in removing the content. It is your share which is at stake, bloody work to secure it. You don't just sit there and watch your house get robbed now do you? Also, blocking these sites look like, nevermind the robbers, let's just focus on putting guards in front of the house and ignore the back alley (this analogy is based on the fact that proxy bypasses will still help you get to blocked sites)

So, now, by them banning all these file sharing sites, should I just cancel my broadband subscription because without any uploading and downloading of large files (forget about emails, they have a limit) I might as well go back to my dial up; as text and pictures don't require much bandwidth.

I am still wondering though, how come youtube wasn't blocked... I am pretty sure there are movies or series on YouTube (not that I have watched any, but hey, just go look for trailers of local movies, and you'll know what i mean). But you know what, you can't ban you tube... Where would you upload semi porn videos then?!

Having said all of the above, brings me to the next big question, "when is the next general election again"?

Raya Weekend and Malaysian Drivers (Especially Malaysian Drivers!)

Hello and welcome back to The Accidental Blogger!. First of all this is supposed to be 2 stories but since I am too lazy to split it, I shall just summarize it to one.

The Raya weekend was awesome. I was on leave for four days (including the weekend) and was in Butterworth and Penang for those 2 days. During my stay I managed to meet up with my form 5 batch of ’98 namely Areef and Sofian (who organized the event) and it was a good time reminiscing the past and how we used to be and what has become of some of the guys that I have not met.

It was a good get together as I have not kept in touch with these guys since form 5 and meeting them up was definitely great especially a day before the end of Ramadhan because once Raya has started, it would not be easy to meet up with all the guys as they would be busy entertaining guest since a majority of them are married with kids.

I also managed to hang out with some of my colleagues during the weekend as they came down for another colleague’s wedding and we chilled at Sunset Bistro in Batu Ferringhi. I enjoy that place as it’s by the beach and the music is not loud so we could hear each other speak and catch some football. I was there on the next day too with my sisters since they needed a get-away too.

It was a weekend well spent as my elder sister was back from the UK and it was good to see her as I had missed her and also my eldest sister was back with my niece and nephew so I got to spend time with them too and not forgetting my parents.

And that my friends, was the upside of the weekend. Now, the ugly side; this time around I drove down to Penang due to the onset of the A(H1N1) pandemic and public transport is not recommended. What I noticed was either Malaysian drivers are stupid, ignorant, busy-bodies or all the above. The character of a person can be very best described by the way they drive!

I have categorized the drivers based on these three groups; The Idiots, The Arseholes and The ones whom I cannot find a suitable cuss word for!

Let us take a closer look at these creatures based on their categorizations, shall we?

The Idiots

The idiots are creatures that own cars but do not know how to use it or are just too plain stupid to know what to do with a car. For example, a car is meant to be driven at a reasonable speed, such as 60 km/h not 20 km/h, that too on the fast lane. Also, since it was the Raya weekend, there were many cars parked by the sleeve of the road as some drivers may have been tired and the rest stops were full. That was not the problem; the problem was that other drivers slowed down to just look at these parked cars! Why in the name of god would you slow down to look at parked cars? I thought it was just accidents that caused these creatures to slow down… but NOOOO…they had to slow down to see parked cars! It is already absolutely ridiculous to slow down when there is an accident and not to offer help but to slow down to look at parked cars sounds even more stupid to me. This scenario went on all the way from Slim River to Bukit Merah (practically the whole Perak)

The Arseholes

These are the creatures that do not value life and drive at speeds up to “the speedometer cannot go any further” per hour! If you want to drive fast, fine, you want to pay the fine for speeding, fine, just do not do it by risking me and my family. These creatures drive so fast and they come right behind you and start flashing for us to move; look, I would move if I was not overtaking another car, so you would just have to fucking wait! Flashing would be a mere annoyance but TAILGATING is a no-no. What would happen if I had to slam my breaks, there is absolutely no way in hell that you could avoid crashing into me. If any of you reading this is a tailgater, I wish you would burn in hell (if there was one)!

The ones whom I cannot find a suitable cuss word for

These are the creatures that use the emergency lane so they can get home faster than the other tax-payers who are stuck in a jam. Now let me put this straight, an emergency lane does not mean that just because your balls are aching that you can use it, an emergency lane is to be used when your grandmother is dying and you’re rushing her to the hospital or if an ambulance is rushing your loved one to the hospital or if a fire truck is rushing too put off the fire that is consuming your home. If you use this lane just to get home faster to catch the match or if your meal is getting cold, then you cause a far more severe jam due to a bottle neck and the ambulance that is rushing your loved one would be trapped in the jam too causing your loved one to probably DIE or your house would have been burnt to bits or grandma has decided to go towards the light because her grandchildren are too dim that they used the emergency lane that was supposed to be used for an emergency for a non-emergency!
It gets even worse still is when they use the emergency lane and try to cut in when the guys who have been following the queue are expected to give way….well guess what, no way motherfucker! You wait in fucking line…and do not have the audacity to give me a stare because I did not give you way…you fucking deserve it….to you motherfuckers who cut lanes, I hope you go to hell and Satan waits to butt-fuck you with a pitch fork! YOU FUCKERS ARE A HAZARD TO “REAL” EMERGENCIES!

And there you have it, my piece for a well spent holiday but an undeserving driving experience to and back from Penang.
